Northern Lights – The bear: gouache painting

This piece is inspired by “Northern Lights” by Philip Pullman, the first book of “His Dark Materials” trilogy. Created as a personal project for the 2012 Bologna children’s Bookfair competition.

The girl will manipulate the big, bad-tempered white bear only by telling him stories.

I painted it with high-quality gouache paint (Talens Extrafine for artists) on Fabriano watercolor 300 gsm paper, 100% cotton. 27 x 37,5 cm. There are some touches of colored pencils.
The white pigment shows its brilliance all over the final artwork.
