Northern Lights -Lyra on the roof: original painting

This piece is inspired by “Northern Lights” by Philip Pullman, the first book of “His Dark Materials” trilogy. Originally created for the 2012 Bologna children’s Bookfair competition.

The main character (Lyra) climbed on the college’s roof and is desperately screaming because she can’t find her close friend Roger anymore and she has a terrible feeling. The burning sky looks like it’s screaming together with her. The shapes of the clouds suggest that Roger, represented as a small bird being trapped by hands, was indeed kidnapped.

I painted it with superb quality gouache paint (Talens Extrafine for artists) on Fabriano watercolor 300 gsm paper, 100% cotton. 38 x 23 cm. There are some touches of colored pencils.
The white pigment shows its brilliance all over the final artwork.

La protagonista si è arrampicata sul tetto del college. Grida disperata perchè non riesce più a trovare il suo amico Roger ed ha un terribile presentimento. Il cielo del tramonto è infuocato e sembra che stia gridando insieme a lei. La forma delle nuvole suggerisce che Roger è in effetti stato rapito.

Dipinto a tempera di alta qualità (Talens extrafine per artisti) con matite colorate su carta Fabriano Artistico 100% cotone.
La spedizione avverrà senza cornice in una busta rinforzata, con spedizione assicurata e tracciata.
